Radian Aerospace appoint EVONA as recruitment partner

EVONA is delighted to be in partnership with Washington-based Radian Aerospace to deliver multiple roles into 2022 and beyond.

This month announcing closure of $27.5 million in seed funding to pursue development of a single-stage-to-orbit reusable spaceplane, Radian Aerospace (Radian) has turned to EVONA to grow the organisation as they grow.

Considered the ‘Holy Grail’ of space transportation, the start-up, founded in 2016, announced plans this month for a fully reusable spaceplane that can take off and land from a runway – they’ve called it: Radian One (TM). Radian’s vision is to make spaceflight affordable and as routine as airline travel, expanding access to space and unlocking the next generation of missions beneficial to humanity.

“We believe that widespread access to space means limitless opportunities for humankind” Richard Humphrey, CEO and co-founder of Radian

The vision of an airline for the space sector isn’t a new idea. In the early 1990s NASA pursued efforts to deliver a reusable space vehicle before abandoning plans in the early 21st century. Since then, technologies have matured, lessons have been learnt and the market is now well-positioned to respond to the growing requests for more efficient and cost effective launch vehicle solutions.

Radian Aerospace raise $27.5m to develop space plane
This latest seed funding will enable Radian to move into further hardware development and testing phases. The company has also already secured significant launch service agreements with government and commercial partners — the tactical direction of the business currently is to grow staff numbers to deliver on the next crucial phase of company growth.

Radian is fast-approaching 20 employees and plans to scale the organisation significantly in Q2 of 2022. Radian’s team has been impressed with the team members EVONA has already delivered  during Radian’s time in stealth mode and will be continuing the relationship into 2022 with plans to hire many more roles across the company in the next five years.

Katarina Wolcott, Head of Business Optimization at Radian said, “As an EVONA candidate myself I can attest to the professional experience they provided, which seamlessly transitioned to an exciting position.”

Katarina will also have a key role in the continued partnership between the two companies and continued, “Working at Radian is a rare opportunity to contribute to something great. We are happy to continue our partnership with EVONA to find those exceptional individuals who have the experience and the shared vision to accomplish our goals.”

Senior Space Business Partner for EVONA, Matt Atkins, who has been influential in the partnership since last year, said:

“We’re hugely excited by the projects that Radian is taking on and firmly believe that their innovations will make space more accessible than ever before. They’re making the long-standing dreams of space advocates and entrepreneurs come true. With investors indicating that this could trigger a $200 billion growth of the orbital launch industry, there’s never been a more exciting time in the space sector, and particularly for us working with Radian.“

“With investors indicating this could trigger a $200 billion growth in the orbital launch industry, there’s never been a more exciting time in the space sector.” Matt Atkins, Senior Space Business Partner at EVONA

Radian says a standard flight could consist of: a trip to space to complete a mission, return to Earth, refuel and be ready to fly again two days later; something not currently possible with launch vehicles such as the SpaceX Crew Dragon, which can take months to prepare to fly again. Reducing the turnaround time brings down the cost per mission, which will allow more missions to run cost-effectively.

With the increasing commercialisation of space, Radian is well positioned to fill a gap in the market and EVONA is proud to be able to help them achieve this mission and a historical feat.

EVONA expand to Manchester

Manchester – we’re coming for you!

In line with our aggressive growth plans, EVONA are set to open up a second UK location in Manchester in early Q2 of 2022.

EVONA has doubled its workforce every year since its inception in 2018 – and this year will be no different with plans to grow to 100 by Q4. The growth has been fuelled by an incredibly successful first few years in business building out our contract function and supporting our growing permanent division.  Reporting a 610% increase in year-over-year revenue, the new office will help support this growth strategy and solidify EVONA’s position as the number one space recruitment specialist in the world.

Our Director of Contract, Ben Carrigan, is already on location and ready to grow the team. The new Manchester office will accommodate up to 10 new members of staff in Spinningfields and provide a second hub in addition to Bristol for remote staff all over the UK. It’s the perfect time in the perfect location as we were look for key opportunities to expand our services to deliver to our growing client base.

Co-Founder Ryan Hill who has been instrumental in orchestrating the move said

“We’re incredibly excited for this next step in EVONA’s journey. As we grow rapidly it makes sense to expand to a second location in the UK in addition to our plans to expand into the US as we announced last year.”

For a company that allows unlimited remote working, it’s an interesting move to adopt a second location but as Hill explains: “It’s our philosophy to allow any staff to work wherever best suits them with unlimited remote working, but we know for some you can’t replicate the workplace environment, and it’s important we understand how best to serve the needs of our crew. We’re hopeful this move will open us up to more recruitment professionals in the North of the UK and it’s a huge step forward for our expansion plans.”

We’re currently recruiting into our Manchester office so if you’d like to know more about the benefits of working with EVONA, then reach out to Ben Carrigan b.carrigan@springgreen-sardine-208151.hostingersite.com.

Contract and Interim Staffing solutions

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PERMANENT AND CONTRACT SOLUTIONS?

In addition to EVONA’s award-winning Permanent hiring solutions, we now offer Contract and Interim placements to our clients.

Any skillset. Anytime. Anywhere.

WHY ARE CONTRACTORS A GREAT SOLUTION FOR SPACE SECTOR CLIENTS?

Hiring skilled, agile contractors is often the go-to solution for companies that need specific talent to start as soon as possible or react fast to changing market conditions. EVONA’s contract solution will deliver the skills without the fuss – Any skillset. Anytime. Anywhere.

Here’s 7 ways that working with contractors can benefit your organisation.

7 Benefits of Contract Hiring

Expertise
Millions of people choose a career in contracting, preferring the flexibility and diversity of working with multiple organisations for short to long term periods of time. This often creates a very well-rounded desirable candidate who has worked through various processes and systems enhancing their skillset and offering to an employer.

You might require specialist skills for a specific project where permanent solutions just aren’t cost effective or have proved difficult to find.

Speed
EVONA can deliver a contract solution in a fraction of the time it takes to onboard, interview and hire a permanent member of staff. Our standard turn around for contract, from need identified to placement is just 6 days in an industry where a permanent solution can take up to 7 weeks.

Flexibility

Specific projects may require an interim solution where a permanent hire wouldn’t be logical. You might be in a period of accelerated growth, organisational change or just require cover for temporary situations like parental leave. A contractor would provide you with the flexibility to scale up or down accordingly, without the need to introduce hiring inconsistencies and flux into the organisation.

Best practise and benchmarking benefits

Working with individuals that have worked at multiple organisations enables you to benchmark yourselves against the wider industries in terms of best practise. Contractors gain a considerable amount of industry tacit knowledge; knowledge that is difficult to transcribe, is transferred through social or mentoring interaction and rooted in experience and context. Having multiple levels of tacit knowledge from various organisations is a unique benefit of contract staff.

Agile to market change

It’s a fact of any company that sudden personnel departures can happen that leave the organisation bereft of skill. Turning to a contract solution can mean that hole is plugged immediately, in a compliant way, without the need to hire or onboard. Contract workers can help companies adapt fast to changes like these so time isn’t lost and project objectives can still be achieved.

Diversity and inclusion
EVONA is a global recruiter, having access to the world’s skilled workforce. We can deliver a contractor that can help introduce greater diversity which is the root of improved innovation. The quality and diversity of talent available is an asset to any organisation, but is often very difficult to source, especially on a global scale.

EVONA’s Compliant, Global Contract and Interim Staffing Solution

Trialling change

Sometimes it is difficult to envisage what skills might be needed in the workplace or if hiring in a skillset will provide the benefits needed. A benefit of hiring contractors is that it allows you to ‘test the water’ before committing to a permanent worker. If you are impressed by the quality of work that the contractor has provided, then there is also the possibility of offering them a permanent role having not taken the initial risk hiring permanently.

GIS Day

GIS DAY 2021

GIS DAY, 17TH NOVEMBER 2021

Here at EVONA, we are celebrating GIS day and the power that it gives us to create an understanding of the world we live in. GIS day is more than just an event, it’s a global movement that showcases the importance of GIS and the many benefits it has to offer.

SO, WHAT IS GIS?

Geographic Information Systems (GIS), is a spatial system that creates, manages, analyses, and maps all types of important data, which is utilised in science, organisations of all sizes and almost every single industry. GIS helps users to interpret relationships, patterns, and geographic context which provides a multitude of benefits such as improved decision making, enhanced efficiency, cost reduction and improved communication (to name a few!).

“GIS is an integrated system of computer hardware, software, and trained personnel linking topographic, demographic, utility, facility, image and other resource data that is geographically referenced.” ~ NASA

THE MAIN USES AND BENEFITS OF GIS

  • Identifying problems.
  • Monitoring change and understanding trends, therefore allowing users to put preventative measures in place.
  • Fast recall of data, with ability for complex analysis.
  • Managing and responding to events efficiently, with improved productivity.
  • Perform forecasting, whilst displaying information in a different light or view.
  • Allows for better management of resources.
  • Better ability to consider environmental and social impact.
  • For businesses – improved client satisfaction, better decision making and increased teamwork amongst employees.

JUST A FEW OF THE WELL-KNOWN COMPANIES WHICH USE GIS EVERY SINGLE DAY

UBER – is an app which we all know completely changed the world. It’s takeover of the taxi industry coined the term ‘the Uber effect’, which would not have been possible if it hadn’t been for GIS. It heavily relies on geospatial data, when the app matches its user with the closest available driver. However, in a not so obvious way, the app also can identify areas which have the highest demand for drivers and advises those drivers to be near those hotspots during times of elevated demand. It’s also cleverly used to monitor and analyse traffic flow in cities.

Starbucks – this household name relies largely on data to guide its strategies for growth, using GIS to determine the best places for new locations. It analyses lots of factors before deciding to branch out into an area, including:

  • Population density.
  • Average income.
  • Traffic patterns.
  • Proximity to public transportation.
  • Other nearby businesses.

The World Health Organisation – GIS enables spatial representation of data to support improved public health planning and contributes towards better decision making. The global health and medical applications of GIS are numerous, but here are just a few of the main examples:

  • Finding disease clusters and their possible causes.
  • Improving deployment for emergency services.
  • Determining if an area is being served adequately by health services.

HOW GIS IS CHANGING THE WORLD

NASA’s Mars Rover

Disease Control – Combating the spread of pests, by identifying critical intervention areas efficiently.

Mars Rover Landing – Examining how to land the Mars Rover safely with operations criteria including latitude for solar power, soil softness, slopes using laser altimetry, dustiness, rockiness, and a landing footprint.

Development Planning – Making citizens happy through smart development planning and understanding the bigger picture.

Self-Driving Vehicles – Sitting back and relaxing while Google’s autonomous car does all the work equipped with LiDAR, GPS, an inertial unit, and sophisticated software.

Mapping – Google Maps is an excellent example of a web-based GIS mapping solution that people use for everyday navigation purposes.

Environmental Impact Analysis – Data gathered via GIS applications is vital for conserving natural resources and protecting the environment. Impact statements assess the magnitude of human impact on the environment.

REASONS TO PERSUE A GIS CAREER

Now that you’ve seen the benefits GIS has to offer, perhaps you’re interested in pursuing a career within GIS. It is a powerful, ever-evolving field with possibilities that increase as the world becomes more connected. The GIS market is projected to reach $25.6 billion by 2030, and competitive salaries aside, a career within GIS can give you the chance to truly make a difference. If that wasn’t enough, there really is something for everyone as some of the unique applications of GIS technology can be utilised in a wide range of industries:

  • Gaming.
  • Transportation.
  • Public health.
  • Agriculture.
  • Advertising.
  • Retail.
  • Environmental services.
  • And many more!

EVONA named New business of the Year winners 2021

NEW BUSINESS OF THE YEAR WINNERS

The New Business of the Year recognises the companies that have exceeded their initial targets for growth and already show importance within their sector or industry through significant innovation and leadership. After what has been a very strange year for a lot of us, EVONA are proud to have tripled in size, not furloughed a single member of staff through lockdown and exceeded initial business targets for the year. We’ve been keen to keep the company together and inclusive, seeking new innovative ways to stay connected and ensure new members of staff are onboarded so they feel they’re part of the crew from day one.

It’s also been important for EVONA to give back through wider CSR initiatives that have seen us grow and expand the EVONA global forest by planting to date over 680 trees just this year, raise and donate over £12,000 for mental health charities and donate hundreds of food parcels to local food banks.

  • Plans to sustain financial growth

Asked what the future holds for EVONA and what the next five years will look like, Joyce continues “We want to raise the curtain on the global space sector; UK, Europe, US and globally. We want to make space accessible for everybody, it’s not just about astronauts – whether you’re an engineer, lawyer, teacher, whatever your chosen profession, there’s space for everyone.”

Speaking on the win, Tom Kelly added “For me it’s amazing to have the validation of everything we believe in. We’ve worked tirelessly to make EVONA something special and to have such high level external praise is such an incredible feeling.
