An innovative space technology company in Seattle is seeking a Senior FPGA Engineer to lead RTL design and FPGA development for advanced radar systems. You will play a key role in translating radar algorithms into reliable, mission-critical firmware while working across hardware, software, mechanical, and signal-processing disciplines.

This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who can independently own complex projects, make sound architectural decisions, and deliver high-quality solutions on schedule in a fast-moving startup environment.

The Role

  • Partner with a multidisciplinary engineering team to define and refine firmware requirements.
  • Architect, design, and implement embedded firmware for a radar sensor payload.
  • Develop control and signal-processing functions in Verilog or VHDL.
  • Evaluate implementation complexity, maintainability, and FPGA resource requirements, including logic cells, embedded memory, and DSP slices.
  • Produce technical trade studies to support architecture and implementation decisions.
  • Integrate RTL designs onto FPGA and SoC platforms through synthesis, place and route, timing analysis, and timing closure.
  • Lead bring-up, verification, and validation of FPGA designs on prototype and flight hardware.
  • Collaborate with radar algorithm, electrical, software, and mechanical engineers to build dependable embedded systems.
  • Support the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of additional engineering team members.

Required Skills and Experience

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 8 years of embedded firmware development experience, ideally involving radar or other mission-critical systems.
  • Strong RTL design experience using Verilog and/or VHDL, including work on satellite or aerospace applications.
  • Hands-on experience bringing up and verifying RTL-based designs on target hardware.
  • Experience integrating FPGA or SoC designs, including synthesis, place and route, and timing analysis.
  • Familiarity with low-speed interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, and RS-422.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Experience with Git, CI pipelines, code reviews, and version-control workflows.

Preferred Experience

Experience in any of the following areas would be valuable:

And how do we turn that initial mission concept into a spacecraft that can actually be built, tested, launched and operated?

We’re looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join a rapidly growing international small satellite company in Los Angeles.

This isn't a role where you'll simply manage requirements.

You'll sit at the intersection of the customer, the mission and the engineering teams responsible for building the spacecraft.

You'll take high-level customer objectives and translate them into system and subsystem requirements, working closely with hardware and software engineers to develop the right technical solution.

One day you might be discussing mission requirements with a customer.

The next, you're working through a power or link budget, evaluating a subsystem trade-off, reviewing a satellite architecture or helping the engineering team understand how a change impacts the wider mission.

As Senior IT Systems Administrator, you'll become the primary IT resource for the US operation — responsible for keeping its people connected, its infrastructure reliable, its cloud environments secure and its systems compliant with the demanding requirements of the US government and defence ecosystem.

What will you actually be responsible for?

The opportunity

There aren't many Quality Inspector roles where the hardware you sign off today could eventually be operating hundreds of kilometres above Earth.

This is one of them.

We’re supporting a fast-growing international space company that is expanding its US operations in Denver and building a high-performing team to manufacture, integrate and test the next generation of small satellites.

As that operation grows, they’re looking for a Quality Inspector who will become one of the most important checkpoints between a collection of individual components and flight-ready spacecraft hardware.

Because once something goes into space, you can't simply bring it back to the workshop and fix it.

Quality matters.

What will you actually be doing?

You'll work directly on the floor alongside the Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) team, primarily within a cleanroom environment.

As spacecraft hardware moves through assembly and integration, you'll be there checking that every stage has been completed correctly before the next one begins.

You'll inspect boards, cables and mechanical components for defects, damage and workmanship issues.

You'll make sure engineers and technicians are working from the correct drawings, instructions and revisions.

You'll verify part numbers, serial numbers and lot numbers and make sure the supporting documentation matches the hardware in front of you.

You'll inspect work against defined checklists, record the results and sign off travellers and route cards once you're satisfied everything has been completed correctly.

You'll also help maintain the disciplines that are essential when building flight hardware — cleanroom procedures, correct gowning, ESD protection, contamination control and ensuring only approved materials enter controlled environments.

And when something doesn't look right?

You'll speak up.

You'll identify and flag non-conformances, help document the issue and work alongside the AIT team to catch problems early rather than allowing them to move further through the build process.

You'll also ensure inspection tools and gauges are properly maintained and within calibration and take photographic records of hardware or defects when required.

Who are we looking for?

You don't necessarily need to have built satellites before.

Experience within aerospace or space would obviously be valuable, but we're equally interested in people coming from other environments where quality simply cannot be compromised.

That could include electronics manufacturing, medical devices, automotive, aviation or another high-reliability engineering environment.

What matters is your mindset.

You're someone who notices the small things.

You're comfortable handling delicate components and carrying out detailed visual inspections.

You can read technical drawings and follow detailed work instructions.

You're methodical with documentation and understand why traceability matters.

Most importantly, you have the confidence and integrity to say:

“This isn't right.”

Even when everyone else is under pressure to hit a deadline.

You'll ideally have a technical secondary education or higher in electronics, mechanics or a related discipline.

Experience working within a cleanroom or ESD-controlled environment would be advantageous, as would electronics inspection experience or knowledge of standards such as IPC-A-610.

You'll be joining a fast-paced, hands-on smallsat engineering and manufacturing environment, developing advanced satellites for commercial, government and scientific missions.

The opportunity

As a Spacecraft Thermal Engineer, you'll be responsible for thermal engineering activities across the full spacecraft lifecycle.

From initial spacecraft design and thermal architecture through manufacturing, environmental testing, launch and flight operations, you'll have the opportunity to follow your engineering work from concept to orbit.

You'll work as part of a multidisciplinary Systems Engineering team, collaborating closely with mechanical, electrical, systems and AIT engineers to make sure the spacecraft performs across the environments it will encounter.

You'll work on both satellite platforms and customer-specific spacecraft, meaning the engineering challenges won't always be the same.

And when something doesn't behave as expected, you'll help figure out why.

What you'll be doing

You'll take responsibility for defining spacecraft thermal architectures, including radiators, thermal blankets, heaters and other thermal-control solutions.

You'll build and maintain spacecraft thermal models and use them to predict performance across hot and cold flight cases.

You'll support TVAC campaigns by predicting thermal behaviour, defining test success criteria and calculating thermal power consumption.

Once the hardware goes into testing, you'll correlate your models against real test results and refine them accordingly.

And when thermal issues arise, you'll investigate them, understand the root cause and work with the wider engineering team to drive them through to closure.

Your involvement won't necessarily stop at launch either.

You'll have the opportunity to support spacecraft through flight operations and see how the systems you've designed and analysed perform in the real environment of space.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for someone with a strong technical background in spacecraft thermal engineering who enjoys being close to both the analysis and the hardware.

You'll ideally bring:

  • An MSc in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong spacecraft thermal engineering knowledge
  • Experience defining spacecraft thermal architectures
  • Experience developing and working with thermal models
  • Understanding of spacecraft hot-case and cold-case analysis
  • Experience supporting thermal vacuum testing and model correlation
  • A strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles
  • The ability to investigate and solve complex thermal problems
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to engineering

You'll also be someone who takes ownership and understands that good engineering isn't finished until the solution is delivered and proven.

What would really make you stand out?

If you've spent 5+ years working on space programmes, I'd particularly like to hear from you.

Experience with nanosatellites or small satellites would be highly valuable.

Perhaps you've already taken spacecraft through thermal analysis, TVAC qualification and into flight.

Maybe you've worked in an environment where thermal engineers don't operate in isolation, but work directly alongside mechanical, systems, electronics and AIT teams to make rapid engineering decisions.
