Contract Business Development Consultant — Golden Dome
United States (Remote)
Open hourly rate
6-month contract – 20 hours per week +
Fully remote (US-based)
A space & defense company is hiring a Business Development Consultant to open the Golden Dome market through a 6-month engagement.
The infrastructure is built, the program is moving. What’s needed is a BD lead who has sold into missile defense or hypersonic test programs before, can build a pipeline without a long runway, and can carry it from first meeting to award on a fixed clock.
What you’ll be doing
Own the Golden Dome market as the sole business development consultant on the account.
Map the stakeholders, program offices, primes and budget lines behind Golden Dome hypersonic testing and test-vehicle launch, and turn that into a named target list within the first month.
Secure first meetings with program managers, contracting officers and prime-contractor capture leads, and qualify each opportunity against what the company can deliver on its current timeline.
Shape capture plans for test campaigns at the company’s site: vacuum, high-G, materials and wind-tunnel testing, and test-vehicle launch.
Draft responses to RFIs, BAAs and OTA proposals alongside the CEO and the engineering team, with the technical claims kept accurate.
Run a weekly pipeline review with the CEO: what moved, what stalled, what needs an engineering answer, what needs a decision.
Convert an initial test campaign into a multi-year test-services program of record.
What you’ll need
Business development or capture experience selling into the DoD, with awards you can name.
A live network across hypersonic test and missile-defense stakeholders: OSD, MDA, the Space Force, test ranges and the primes.
A working knowledge of DoD contracting mechanisms: BAAs, OTAs, SBIR/STTR, IDIQs, sole-source and cost-plus versus firm-fixed-price.
Experience selling test services, flight-test capacity or novel test infrastructure rather than standard components.
A record of opening a market from a standing start — first meeting to first award — rather than managing an inherited book.
Comfort representing engineering claims accurately to a technical customer without overstating them.
Judgement to qualify out early: this is a 20-hour-per-week engagement and the pipeline has to be real.
Interested – Click apply with an updated copy of your resume. I’ll come back to you within 48 hours. If you don’t hear back within 48 hours, please assume you haven’t been successful on this occasion.
We’re partnering with an established RF technology manufacturer as they make a significant investment into their commercial space business.
With decades of engineering expertise and technology already flown across hundreds of space payloads, the business is now building a dedicated NewSpace organisation to accelerate its presence within the commercial space market.
They’re looking for a Business Development Manager who combines strong technical credibility with a genuine hunter mentality. This is an opportunity to build new business rather than inherit and manage an existing book of accounts.
Key Responsibilities
Generate net-new pipeline across the commercial NewSpace market
Identify, prioritise and engage high-value target accounts
Open doors and develop relationships across engineering, program management and procurement teams
Lead customer discovery conversations, including technical requirements discussions
Translate customer requirements into commercial opportunities and proposals
Manage opportunities through the complete sales cycle from initial engagement to close
Develop strategic relationships and partnerships across the NewSpace ecosystem
Represent the business at customer meetings, trade shows and industry events
Act as the voice of the customer internally, working closely with engineering and product teams
Provide market intelligence to help influence future product development
Key Requirements
10+ years of experience within the space industry
Proven track record of generating and closing net-new business
Experience selling complex, engineered hardware into technical customers
Strong technical fluency across RF, communications or aerospace hardware
Ability to engage credibly with engineering-level stakeholders
Experience building pipeline from scratch rather than solely managing established accounts
Proactive, self-directed and comfortable owning commercial targets
U.S. Person status due to ITAR requirements
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
This is an opportunity to join an established technology business at a pivotal point in its commercial space growth.
If you have a strong NewSpace network, understand technically complex hardware sales and have a track record of turning new conversations into revenue, we’d like to hear from you.
We're working with a fast-growing US defense technology company looking for a Head of Partnerships to own and scale relationships across the autonomous systems ecosystem.
