Mixed-Signal Engineer
We’re working with an early-stage deep-tech company developing advanced optical communications systems for both terrestrial and space applications.
They’re looking for a Mixed-Signal Engineer to design the electronics sitting between high-performance photonic front ends and digital processing.
You'll work across high-speed ADC/DAC chains, TIAs, laser and modulator drivers, precision control electronics, clocking and FPGA interfaces – designing boards that ultimately need to perform in exceptionally demanding environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mixed-signal schematics and PCBs for high-speed communications hardware.
- Develop high-speed ADC/DAC chains, TIAs, drivers, bias supplies and clocking architectures.
- Perform signal and power integrity analysis for multi-GHz analog and high-speed digital interfaces.
- Develop precision analog control loops for optical hardware.
- Own board bring-up, debugging and characterization in the lab.
- Verify noise, bandwidth and linearity against system-level performance requirements.
- Interface high-speed data converters with FPGAs.
- Collaborate on or directly develop RTL for data capture, calibration and real-time control.
- Design for reliability, derating and demanding environmental conditions.
- Support EMC/EMI and environmental qualification.
Key Requirements
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 4+ years of mixed-signal hardware development experience.
- Strong high-speed PCB design experience using Altium, Cadence or similar.
- Excellent analog fundamentals including noise analysis, TIAs/op-amps, PLLs, clocking and power design.
- Hands-on laboratory experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers and board characterization.
- Experience interfacing ADCs/DACs with FPGAs.
- Experience with JESD204, SerDes or similar high-speed interfaces is highly relevant.
- FPGA development using VHDL, Verilog or SystemVerilog is a major plus.
- Space electronics or optical communications experience is advantageous, but not essential.
- Must be a U.S. Person as defined under ITAR.
This is a highly hands-on opportunity for an electronics engineer who enjoys the intersection of analog, digital, photonics and FPGA hardware.
You'll own real hardware, characterize it yourself and see your designs deployed in both terrestrial and space-based systems.
