A leading defense, national security and space technology organisation is seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer VI – Test to join its team in Reno, NV.
This organisation develops mission-critical technologies that support national security, space exploration, and advanced propulsion systems. The team is focused on solving complex engineering challenges across ground and space applications.
This role is suited to a senior-level engineer with deep expertise in complex test environments, solid rocket motor systems, and high-risk development programs.
The Role
Testing & Verification

Act as a technical authority in advanced testing environments
-
Design and oversee complex, large-scale test programs
-
Lead test planning frameworks and methodologies
-
Apply advanced data acquisition, statistical analysis, measurement techniques, and signal processing
-
Support verification and validation of system requirements
Engineering & Design
-
Work across electromechanical actuators, igniters, pressure vessels, solid rocket motor systems, hot gas valves, and thrusters
-
Create intricate 2D and 3D models and complex assemblies

Produce precise technical drawings and interpret GD&T standards
-
Perform structural, thermal, dynamic, and CFD analyses
-
Identify manufacturing and tolerance-related design challenges
Ballistics & System Performance

Apply knowledge of propellant chemistry, combustion principles, grain geometry, and internal ballistics

Understand thrust, specific impulse, and solid rocket motor performance
-
Design simple control systems and implement algorithms aligned to specifications
Systems Engineering & Project Leadership

Develop program plans and understand acquisition life cycles

Lead high-risk technical activities and risk management strategies
-
Coordinate cross-functional teams and suppliers
-
Support procurement strategy, vendor evaluation, and contract management
-
Manage schedules and contribute to proposal development
Communication & Documentation
-
Produce high-quality technical documentation with precision and clarity
-
Deliver compelling technical presentations tailored to varied audiences
-
Provide expert consultation on communication strategy and stakeholder engagement
Required Experience
-
15+ years of mechanical engineering experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline
-
Eligible to obtain and maintain U.S. security clearance

Strong collaborative mindset with professional and proactive approach
Preferred Experience

Rocket motor design and testing experience

Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline

Willingness to travel approximately 10%
