Harness Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Harness Engineer to support the design, assembly, installation, and testing of electrical wire harness systems. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards, hands-on experience in harness fabrication, and a deep understanding of wire and connector selection, crimping, soldering, and electrical testing processes.
Key Responsibilities

Develop electrical wire harness assemblies to meet system and customer requirements

Select appropriate wire types, gauges, shielding, and insulation based on electrical and environmental requirements

Select connectors, terminals, backshells, and associated components

Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams

Perform and support wire harness assembly, routing, and installation
-
Execute crimping, soldering, stripping, terminating, and labeling operations
-
Conduct continuity, resistance, insulation, and functional testing of harness assemblies

Ensure compliance with IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards

Troubleshoot and resolve harness-related electrical and mechanical issues

Develop and maintain harness documentation, including BOMs, drawings, and work instructions

Support prototype builds, first article inspections, and production ramp-up

Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineering teams

Drive continuous improvement in harness manufacturing processes.
Required Qualifications -
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards

Experience in wire harness installation, assembly, and testing

Proficiency in wire selection (gauge, insulation type, shielding, current capacity)

Experience with connector and terminal selection

Hands-on experience with crimping tools, soldering equipment, and wire processing tools

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and harness drawings

Experience performing electrical continuity and functional testing

Strong attention to detail and quality standards
Preferred Qualifications -
IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certification (CIS or CIT preferred)

Experience in aerospace, automotive, defense, or high-reliability industries

Familiarity with MIL-spec components and standards

Experience with harness design software (e.g., Zuken, Mentor, SolidWorks Electrical, Capital, etc.)

Knowledge of environmental considerations (vibration, temperature, EMI/EMC, sealing)
