Harness Engineer 

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Harness Engineer to support the design, assembly, installation, and testing of electrical wire harness systems. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards, hands-on experience in harness fabrication, and a deep understanding of wire and connector selection, crimping, soldering, and electrical testing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical wire harness assemblies to meet system and customer requirements

  • Select appropriate wire types, gauges, shielding, and insulation based on electrical and environmental requirements

  • Select connectors, terminals, backshells, and associated components

  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams

  • Perform and support wire harness assembly, routing, and installation

  • Execute crimping, soldering, stripping, terminating, and labeling operations

  • Conduct continuity, resistance, insulation, and functional testing of harness assemblies

  • Ensure compliance with IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards

  • Troubleshoot and resolve harness-related electrical and mechanical issues

  • Develop and maintain harness documentation, including BOMs, drawings, and work instructions

  • Support prototype builds, first article inspections, and production ramp-up

  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineering teams

  • Drive continuous improvement in harness manufacturing processes.

    Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • Working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards

  • Experience in wire harness installation, assembly, and testing

  • Proficiency in wire selection (gauge, insulation type, shielding, current capacity)

  • Experience with connector and terminal selection

  • Hands-on experience with crimping tools, soldering equipment, and wire processing tools

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and harness drawings

  • Experience performing electrical continuity and functional testing

  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards

    Preferred Qualifications

  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certification (CIS or CIT preferred)

  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, defense, or high-reliability industries

  • Familiarity with MIL-spec components and standards

  • Experience with harness design software (e.g., Zuken, Mentor, SolidWorks Electrical, Capital, etc.)

  • Knowledge of environmental considerations (vibration, temperature, EMI/EMC, sealing)
