Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer
Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer – Spacecraft
Location: Westminster, Colorado
Employment: Full-time | On-site
Industry: Space & Aerospace
EVONA is partnering with an innovative space technology company developing advanced communications hardware for satellites and other space platforms.
We’re looking for a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to take technical leadership of spacecraft mechanical development, helping take next-generation satellite hardware from initial architecture and concept through integration, qualification, and ultimately flight.
This is a highly technical leadership position for an experienced spacecraft engineer who enjoys remaining hands-on while mentoring engineers and owning major mechanical design decisions.
What You’ll Do
You’ll act as a senior mechanical technical authority across spacecraft and subsystem development, with responsibilities including:
-
Lead mechanical development of spacecraft, subsystems, and interfaces from concept through flight.
-
Own key mechanical architecture and design decisions.
-
Lead requirements definition, architecture trades, design, analysis, manufacturing, assembly, integration, and qualification.
-
Develop spacecraft structures, mechanical interfaces, electronics packaging, thermal architectures, and mechanisms.
-
Support spacecraft integration and resolve vehicle-level mechanical challenges.
-
Lead environmental qualification activities including vibration, shock, and thermal-vacuum testing.
-
Mentor and provide technical direction to mechanical engineers.
-
Work closely with GNC, electrical, RF, thermal, systems, manufacturing, and AI&T teams.
-
Present designs and technical recommendations at engineering design reviews.
-
Support customer discussions and proposal activities.
What We’re Looking For
-
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
-
12+ years of relevant engineering experience.
-
Significant experience developing spacecraft, satellites, or spaceflight hardware.
-
Demonstrated technical leadership of spacecraft mechanical development through at least one full development lifecycle.
-
Strong knowledge of spacecraft mechanical architecture, structures, interfaces, and system-level design trades.
-
Experience leading and mentoring engineers across mechanical disciplines.
-
Hands-on experience supporting spacecraft integration, environmental testing, and qualification.
-
Strong understanding of DFM/DFA/DFT, reliability, GD&T, and engineering drawings.
-
Experience working cross-functionally with structures, thermal, mechanisms, electrical, manufacturing, analysis, and AI&T teams.
Highly Desirable
Experience with:
-
Vibration, shock, and TVAC testing
-
Spacecraft primary and secondary structures
-
Metallic and/or composite structures
-
Electronics or avionics packaging
-
Deployable or actuated spacecraft mechanisms
-
CAD and analysis tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, Nastran, or equivalent
Why Join?
This is an opportunity to take genuine technical ownership of flight hardware and play a key role in putting advanced communications spacecraft into orbit.
You’ll join a fast-paced, highly technical environment where you can influence spacecraft architecture, mentor talented engineers, and see your designs progress from an idea on a screen to hardware operating in space.
Please note: This position is on-site in Westminster, Colorado.
Due to U.S. space technology export regulations, applicants must meet applicable U.S. person/export-control requirements.
