Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Orlando, FL (hybrid – must be local)
Salary: $120,000 – $170,000 + Benefits (DOE)
An innovative space technology company is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to play a key role in developing a next-generation Earth observation payload that will help redefine how our planet and the moon are mapped from space.
This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of the electrical architecture of a sophisticated spaceborne instrument, working across the complete product lifecycle from concept and detailed design through hardware build, environmental testing, integration and launch preparation.
Working alongside a highly experienced multidisciplinary engineering team, you’ll influence critical design decisions while helping deliver cutting-edge space hardware from the ground up. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design a novel LiDAR system, leveraging existing designs for Earth-mapping LiDAR, focusing on the electrical, power, and avionics systems of the payload
and its interfaces to the satellite bus—spanning the full lifecycle from preliminary design through AIT and implementation.
Responsibilities
• Lead development of the electrical, data, and power systems for a space LiDAR payload.
• Advance and adapt LEO LiDAR electrical designs for next-generation Earth-observation applications.
• Contribute to the LiDAR timing system to synchronize laser pulses with the camera and maintain UTC synchronization onboard.
• Design and develop a payload avionics and power regulation/distribution system.
• Work closely with laser manufacturers to ensure payload laser meets all system requirements.
• Support flight hardware build, test, and space qualification campaigns.
• Identify design risks; support radiation and environment analysis for LEO LiDAR payloads.
• Analyze circuit tolerances using hand calculations and Spice tools.
• Generate test plans, test reports, and material for design reviews (PDR, CDR, MRR, FRR).
• Provide inputs to ICDs, design descriptions, testing procedures, and RFP material/labor estimates.
Qualifications
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering + 7 years of experience, or M.S./Ph.D. + 5 years of related experience.
• Experience in electrical design for space applications and space qualification campaigns.
• Experience with data and power systems, C&DH architectures, and common spacecraft electrical interfaces.
• Proficiency with low-voltage power electronics, high-reliability connectors, high-speed signals, and high-current power delivery.
• Experience with grounding architectures and EMC/EMI assessments.
• Experience generating system-level requirements and translating them into design specifications.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Based in Orlando, FL; ability and willingness to work onsite (hybrid)
Preferred Requirements (not necessary)
• FPGA-based implementations with peripherals including DDR, Flash, EEPROM, ADC, DAC, and transceivers.
• Preference for candidates with laser and radiation analysis backgrounds.
• Experience with lasers, sensors, and board design.
• Experience designing and developing digital and analog circuit card assemblies (CCAs).?
