Principal Electrical Engineer II

Principal Electrical Engineer
Denver, CO

Our rapidly scaling Space client is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to support the development of next-generation communication systems for advanced airborne, space, and terrestrial platforms. This is a highly technical hands-on role focused on the full lifecycle development of complex digital and mixed-signal electronics for cutting-edge RF communication systems.

The successful candidate will take ownership of board-level and system-level hardware design activities from architecture and component selection through integration, testing, qualification, and production deployment. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in a fast-paced engineering environment and enjoys solving complex technical challenges across multidisciplinary systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, analysis, integration, and test of advanced digital and mixed-signal electronics hardware.
  • Own complex board-level hardware designs including architecture definition, trade studies, and component selection.
  • Develop high-speed PCB designs including HDI stackups, signal integrity optimization, and power integrity considerations.
  • Support FPGA-based systems, ADC/DAC integration, telemetry subsystems, and high-speed digital interfaces.
  • Perform hardware bring-up, debugging, root cause analysis, and design verification activities.
  • Conduct detailed design reviews and ensure engineering rigor throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with RF, software, firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, and systems engineering teams.
  • Support hardware qualification, environmental testing, and transition into production environments.
  • Contribute technical leadership across multi-module assemblies and complex hardware integration activities.
  • Participate in proposal and technical planning activities for future programmes and technology development efforts.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in board-level electronics design, analysis, and hardware verification.
  • Strong expertise in digital and mixed-signal electronics design.
  • Experience with FPGA integration, high-speed interfaces, ADCs/DACs, and telemetry systems.
  • Advanced PCB layout experience including HDI design and high-speed routing techniques.
  • Experience using signal integrity and power integrity simulation tools such as SIwave, ADS SIPro, Hyperlynx, or equivalent.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC mitigation techniques and high-reliability hardware design practices.
  • Experience supporting products through qualification, manufacturing, and deployment.
  • Strong laboratory experience with hardware bring-up and verification testing.

Desirable Experience:

  • Aerospace, defense, phased array, satellite communications, or RF systems experience.
  • Familiarity with military or aerospace design standards.
  • Experience with RF test equipment and communication systems hardware.
  • Experience leading small engineering teams or technical work packages.
