BD Director

An established and growing US advanced materials manufacturer is looking for a Business Development Director – Aerospace & Defense to drive new business across the US market.

This is a remote, individual contributor position suited to a commercially driven business development professional who understands the A&D landscape and has experience selling highly engineered products, components or technical solutions.

The successful candidate will focus on opening new accounts, developing strategic customer relationships and securing opportunities across both long-term aerospace and defense programs and faster-moving commercial opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop and win new business opportunities across the aerospace and defense market.
  • Build relationships with key decision-makers across major primes, Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers.
  • Develop opportunities from initial customer engagement through technical discussions, commercial negotiations and award.
  • Identify opportunities to position the company's capabilities on new and existing programs.
  • Build a strong pipeline of both near-term opportunities and longer-term programs of record.
  • Work closely with engineering and technical teams to develop solutions around customer requirements.
  • Maintain a high level of customer-facing activity, including regular meetings, site visits and industry events.
  • Develop account strategies for strategically important aerospace and defense customers.
  • Provide market intelligence around customer requirements, competitor activity and emerging programs.

Key Requirements

  • Proven business development or technical sales experience within Aerospace & Defense.
  • Demonstrable success generating and winning new business.
  • Strong understanding of how aerospace and defense primes and Tier 1/2 suppliers operate.
  • Experience selling highly engineered materials, components, products or technical solutions.
  • Ability to understand technical customer requirements and work effectively with engineering teams.
  • Experience developing complex, long-cycle sales opportunities.
  • Proactive, customer-facing approach with the ability to open doors and develop relationships from scratch.
  • Comfortable operating as an individual contributor.
  • Willing and able to travel regularly across the US.
