Help Build a Space Manufacturing Facility From the Ground Up

Our Client is entering a major new phase of growth in the United States.

At the centre of that expansion is a new 100,000+ sq. ft. satellite manufacturing facility in the Los Angeles / South Bay area, which will become home to the assembly, integration and testing of increasingly sophisticated spacecraft.

But this isn't an established aerospace facility that's been operating for 20 years.

It needs to be built, commissioned and made operational.

That's where you come in.

We're looking for an experienced Construction / Facilities Manager who can take a large industrial space and help transform it into a world-class satellite manufacturing environment.

The Opportunity

This is much more than traditional facilities management.

You'll play a central role in bringing a new spacecraft manufacturing operation to life — helping oversee the build-out and commissioning of the infrastructure required to manufacture, integrate and test satellites.

That means working across everything from cleanrooms and specialist production areas to utilities, environmental controls, security and building infrastructure.

You'll work closely with engineering, manufacturing, AI&T, operations, contractors and senior leadership to ensure the facility is ready to support spacecraft production.

And once it's operational, you'll take responsibility for keeping it that way.

What You'll Build & Lead

You'll take ownership of the facility and its supporting infrastructure, including:

  • Supporting the build-out and commissioning of a 100,000+ sq. ft. satellite manufacturing facility.
  • Managing contractors, suppliers and specialist facility partners.
  • Supporting the development and operation of cleanroom environments for spacecraft and payload activities.
  • Coordinating HVAC, electrical, mechanical, compressed air and other critical building services.
  • Supporting specialist manufacturing and test infrastructure.
  • Managing preventative and corrective maintenance programmes.
  • Ensuring critical utilities and facility systems remain reliable and operational.
  • Supporting ITAR-controlled and secure areas within the facility.
  • Managing environmental, health and safety requirements.
  • Supporting regulatory, fire, building and operational compliance.
  • Developing facility procedures, documentation and maintenance schedules.
  • Managing facility budgets, contractors and ongoing operating costs.
  • Supporting future expansion as spacecraft production volumes increase.
  • Acting as the key facilities interface across engineering, manufacturing, AI&T and operations.

What We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in people who have managed facilities where the environment itself is critical to the product being manufactured.

That could mean experience within:

Space, aerospace, defence, semiconductor, electronics, medical devices, pharmaceuticals or another high-tech manufacturing environment.

We're looking for:

  • Significant experience managing a complex manufacturing or engineering facility.
  • Experience with cleanrooms or controlled manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of building infrastructure including HVAC, electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience managing contractors, vendors and facility improvement projects.
  • Exposure to facility construction, expansion, commissioning or major refurbishment projects.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing and/or test operations.
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance and facility reliability.
  • Understanding of EHS and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong project and budget management capability.
  • The ability to operate effectively within a fast-moving, growing organisation.

Experience within space or aerospace would be highly advantageous, but it isn't essential.

The important thing is understanding what it takes to operate a technically demanding manufacturing environment where downtime, contamination or infrastructure failure can have significant consequences.

The Person

We're not looking for someone whose idea of facilities management is simply coordinating office maintenance.

This is a hands-on operational leadership role.

You'll need to be comfortable walking onto an unfinished production floor, identifying what needs to happen and then coordinating the people required to make it happen.

Some days you'll be discussing cleanroom requirements with engineers.

Others you'll be dealing with contractors, HVAC systems, electrical capacity, security, maintenance schedules or facility expansion.

You'll need to be organised enough to build structure while remaining pragmatic enough to operate within the pace of a growing space company.
